Brief History:
There is nothing brief about this venerable canine's history, though his story is one of rags to riches; with origins as a street urchin in his youngest years, he quickly learned the world wasn't so kind to beggars and turned to theft and crime to make a living.
Discovering the ease at which he could live the life of a rogue, the wolf began taking on more and more adventurous tasks, eventually accumulating a good amount of wealth and skill in combat.
He eventually tired of the life of a rogue, and at a young age, he moved toward arena combat, which proved to be an extremely successful venture for him.. suddenly making an honest living, and becoming quite famous in the process.
One of his fights pitted the wolf against an experienced samurai, who upon his defeat in combat, offered Hyuga the opportunity to serve under a lord as a samurai himself. The wolf quickly accepted.
Not long after his acceptance into the position, the lord Hyuga served beneath was killed, suddenly leaving him and many others as ronin, or masterless samurai. Tradition was to take one's own life in the passing of their lord, but Hyuga would not have such a practice.
Ronin were generally undesirable and Hyuga found himself having great difficulty finding any work.. suddenly feeling like a petty thief all over again. Teaming up with fellow ronin whom he served with, they formed a makeshift militia, a venture that would last at least ten years, making the wolf a famed raider.
After the loss of many associates and the eventual decline in support, Hyuga had a wild change of heart and decided to settle down and try to start a family. He shifted from raider to lawbringer, using his combat skills to randomly cease any crimes or wanted figures he'd come across, acting under his own authority he felt he had been blessed with as part of this change of heart.
Hyuga would remain a lawbringer for some thirty years, making him a very memorable and famous figure. During that time, he was married, only to have his wife, Rose, killed by her employer.
Deciding to finally retire, Hyuga tried a variety of careers; everything from a playwrite to a carpenter. Still, he was plagued by the things of his past; after settling down again to father a child with his new love, she would be kidnapped by a formerly scorned furre of his past doings. The child was allowed to live, though his wife was killed. Neither were ever heard from again.
Hyuga did eventually reap the benefits of his lawbringer days, however; contacted by a township's Rah whom he had helped years and years prior, he was offered a position in the Dagat Ahas Directorate, specifically sought and chosen by the deceased Overseer. Hyuga gladly accepted the position, and has remained the Overseer ever since.
His failing health has since kept him from doing anything outside of the desert city; having worked with flintlock rifles since gunpowder was first discovered and refined (something normally limited to royalty at that time), the wolf was always trying to refine the weapon into something more powerful and more reliable. His constant tinkering with various metals and the exposure to them had given him a rare, uncurable lung disease which leaves him constantly fatigued and sends him into coughing fits.
Anything else we should know?
Hyuga may be known by overseas travelers, or by merchants, simply be appearance and clothing; Dagat Ahas is the home of vast wealth and study. He may also be known as a lawbringer to some rogues and knights alike. He is an extreme figure of power for Dagat Ahas, and is never seen in public without an entourage.
Pros:
A long life of combat experience; proud, venerable stature often has a very positive effect on interactions with any persons of power; long legacy of warding off crime for the good of the land, rather than a paycheck; well-traveled, and can recall customs, maps, traditions, literature and history of almost any continent or city in the world.
Cons:
ENTIRELY mudane (can never use magic of any sort, and it's effects are dulled on him; also entirely resistant to healing magic of any sort); blind in one eye; is very hard of hearing from his choice of flintlocks and gunpowder weaponry all his life; often hated by rogues and unsavory types; suffers from Berylliosis, leaving him fatigued and sending him into coughing episodes, and also giving him a very coarse and winded tone.
