With Mirrum's leave of the village (due in part to significant lack of activity and the all-around peaceful nature the village has seemed to maintain for years), it was essentially defenseless against any outsiders who wished to seize it.
For months, all was well. Trade routes operated as normal, furres went about their daily lives without any complaint of the new rule (or lack thereof).
Until just recently.
Benicoeur, being fairly reserved and without an outstanding military presence, found itself dismantled overnight by a force that was far beyond expectation from anything in the region; a silent strike that was uncharted by neighboring towns, as though these rogues had traveled from afar with the sole purpose of striking the peaceful town of Benicoeur in it's time of particular weakness.
As Benicoeur -- being a small, peaceful village -- is a little less advanced in it's ways then most, news does not often come or go very quickly to surrounding areas about the locale. It did not take long for the residents within to believe that one of their own helped establish this strike and provide the information necessary to do so.
Suddenly, the village is cut off from major trade routes and there is wild civil unrest within, leaving many to simply flee their homes altogether. On top of this, several furres that had put up resistance were taken captive by the new occupants, and word had begun to spread that one hostage was quite possibly of noble lineage.
The situation leaves Mirrum no choice but to return to the village (as having to verify the rumor about the noble was a must, since major political turmoil was not something he greatly desired)! Without a significant militia and unable to contact his comrades from his adventuring days, he decided to spread message of Benicoeur's troubles, as well as place a large reward for re-capture of the village and the hostages, as well as more than fair payment for anyone who wishes to assist in some way.
On the plus side, this handsome reward would encourage many seasoned fighters, wanderers, and hopefully Mirrum's old allies to join the mission. On the other hand, the reward alone would surely bring along some unsavory mercenary types to join the hunt for their own reasons, as well.
----
The average furre to be joining this setting would more than likely be an adventuring type, someone that has traveled a good distance after hearing word of this specific incident. Many would not have ever heard of the town until now.
Another idea would be to come as a relation to one of the hostages, seeking their release. Joining the continuity as one could be an option as well.
Anyone who is willing to help the cause (not strictly those who wield weaponry) and earn a fair sum of gold would surely have made the trip to the town, if they were even able to find the smaller locale on a map! Because of the area's general obscurity, Mirrum himself had begun to lead travelers to the village and creating awareness of it under the guise of a woodland ranger.
